At HYPE, products are manufactured with meticulous attention to detail, starting with the careful selection of materials.
Only full grain leathers are used, this is the strongest, most durable leather and over the life of a product, this leather will improve in appearance developing a genuine character, like you. A lot of what makes HYPE products special, is on the inside or in the manufacturing, which gives every piece integrity, strength and durability.
Leather is ‘skived’ or thinned in selected areas to make the leather more workable and allows the ability to create designs that would otherwise be compromised, stress points are stitched using techniques that offer maximum strength where needed, handles and attachments are reinforced inside the product to minimise the risk of pulling away or through (there are many cases of this on well known brands). Stitches are always doubled back through existing needle holes, a time consuming practise, which is cosmetically more attractive but also better for the integrity of the product.
Where stitching finishes or ends, a lot of manufacturers simply ‘snip’ the thread close to the surface of the product, this leaves a loose end which looks like a small hair sticking up (take a look at some ‘designer’ products on your next shopping trip), this firstly looks unsightly but can also be a weak point of the product. HYPE pull through to the inside every thread, it is then tied and knotted, finally it is secured with a special, waterproof adhesive to ensure it stays securely in place…..time consuming, extra cost…..but worth every penny.
HYPE only use Riri zippers, they are probably the finest in the world, Swiss made. The levels Riri go to in manufacturing their zippers are incredible, special metals, washing individual teeth to ensure they are smooth and will not scratch fabrics or materials they make contact with, they even have a ‘symmetrical’ zipper, designed in a way that will not clog or jam with dirt – this is extremely expensive and standard on HYPE gun slips.
Whilst not wanting to give away every process to their competitors, this passion and pride in manufacturing products in the best way possible is the ethos of HYPE, ‘without compromise’ is not simply a throwaway phrase, it is a belief that ensures longevity of each and every product, a belief that they can stand solidly behind their brand.
